The “Weavers’ Wall” is a huge trompe-l’oeil fresco (1200 m2) created in 1987, which pays tribute to the silk workers. This is the largest painted wall in Europe. The mural gathers images and scenes from daily life, updated every 10 years to reflect changes in the neighborhood. As unusual as they are varied, the details of the images aren’t described here … you’ll have to discover them yourself.

If you want to know all about silk, from the worm to the scarf, it is at the Maison des Canuts (Weavers’ House) that you’ll find the answers to all of your questions. The Maison des Canuts is located in the former headquarters of the Union of Weavers, created in the 19th century. In 1960, a weaving cooperative was created and 10 years later the establishment opened its doors to introduce visitors to the silk trade, its technical history (including Jacquard's invention) as well as the social, artistic and historical side of this activity during the last 5 centuries.

It was here in Lyon that the cinema was born. This museum, housed in the villa of the Lumière brothers, inventors of the cinematograph in 1895, plunges visitors in this period of silent cinema and photography. The brothers’ inventions and objects are presented with projections and interactive animations. The films of Auguste and Louis are also projected.
In the gardens, a movie theater called "The Hangar", where their first film was carried out, offers daily showings and film retrospectives.

This museum pays tribute to Tony Garnier (1869-1948), a pioneering Lyon urban planner who left his mark in several areas of the city. Visitors will discover a series of murals and other works he completed for the city. Beyond his creations, the museum addresses issues of architecture, art and social housing, issues that were important to this artist-architect.
